Humanitarian Mine Clearance

Landmines are an international nuisance affecting the lives of people all over the world. Many international organizations allocate funds and resources to decrease the number of people maimed and killed by landmines in order to allow for land to be returned to civilian use (inhabitation, agriculture and others). Maavarim fights this nuisance by conducting projects of mine clearance in Israel as well as in other places in the world. All of Maavarim's projects were completed successfully, while our employers were satisfied with the work accomplished.
Another goal of Maavarim, which is not less important, is increasing public awareness. Maavarim acheives this by conducting Mine Risk Education teaching programs to the local population in order to reduce the risk of people living in proximity to minefields.

Maavarim works according to its SOP (Standard Operation Procedures), which complies with the UN standards. Maavarim has additional procedures which comply with the IFD (Israel Defense Force) to whom we are committed. In addition, there are many countries, which have a mine action center, or another similar organization, which is responsible for the demining activities in their countries, and determines additional or unique procedures for working in that country for all demining companies. Maavarim is also committed to its ISO 9002 standards enabling us to maintain professional and safe work. Despite our large-scale activities, we have a ZERO CASUALTY safety record due to our persistent pursuit for supreme quality and safety records.

Maavarim's work method varies in accordance with the nature of the terrain and the type of minefield. Basically the work method is determined by the following parameters: AP or AT mines, type of mines, slopes, vegetation and rocks. Prior to each project, the level of risk is estimated and the work method most suitable for the area is determined.

Manual Demining - Using deminers equipped with mine detectors and prodders to detect the mines. Every deminer wears a protective vest, a helmet and a visor according to the UN safety standards. The work is done while keeping the required safety distances. The pace is determined by the nature of the terrain and level of risk, and, of course, if there was a ground preparation done beforehand.

Mechanical Demining - When possible, we use mechanical equipment for ground preparation (as well as for other tasks). The use of this kind of equipment has major advantages; there is a much lower risk to human lives and it enables working on a vast area in a shorter span of time

MDD (Mine Detection Dogs) - In many projects, we make use of MDD teams, which find the location of the mines. It is possible to use the MDD teams as separate method, or as a QA checking.

In addition to activities of mine and UXO Clearance, Maavarim provides service of Demining Consultancy which concerns all aspect of clearance, including risk assessment, equipment research, Quality Assurance and other subjects.
